Sad News

Our Indian Rhino calf has passed away.  The calf died at approximately 7:15 p.m. Zoo staff was with the calf at the time, and attempted to resuscitate again, without success. It has been an emotional day and we are all sad that the baby did not make it.

I amdevastated that the calf has passed away. I know everything that could be done was done by the keepers. Just tragic, hope Nikki is OK. My thought are with you at this very sad time.

After watching her on the camera for weeks and anticipating the birth, I am so saddened to hear that the baby passed away. But with the loving staff by the calf’s side makes it’s passing more tolerable. I am so sorry for the loss of such an amazing animal. My heart goes out to your staff and to the mother.

So sorry for all the staff at the zoo. Sorry for Niki too. We have been watching anxiously over the summer and fall for the new birth, and we are so sorry the baby rhino didn’t make it. Keep up the good work and don’t stop trying.

Its so sad to hear that i was excited to see the baby…thx to all the keepers who watched over Nikki during her pregnancy I’m sure she really appriciated it.

I’m so terribly sad that Nikki lost her calf. Thanks to all at Cincinnati zoo who strived so hard to save him. After such a long journey to bring him into the world, the loss must be particularly devastating to all the staff and keepers, as it is also to many around the world who watched and waited anxiously with you. bless his little heart…we loved him and didnt even know him. i can not imagine what you all are going through.i cant bring my self to tell my babies yet they were so excited. my prayers are with the staff, may god bless each and everyone of you and help you find comfort and peace about his passing..may god touch nikki and her broken heart and console her.GOD BLESS.

I was hoping this one would make it since the last didn’t, but it’s sad because I’ve been keeping up with the news. I’m wondering if you are going to try to inseminate her again. It will be wonderful news after this sad event. I will keep up with it. I’m very sorry.

Monica, Ron and I are so sorry about your loss and Nikki’s. The baby was certainly a cute “little guy” . I know he felt the love and care provided by you and the staff throughout his struggle to survive. Continue with your passion……the next time will be a homerun.
