The VolunTeen Program

If you're a teen between the ages of 13 and 17, and you want a glimpse of what working at the Cincinnati Zoo is like, take a look a the VolunTeen Program! This year the program has some new and exciting changes for 2011!

I have been a

part of the program for the past 3 summers and have enjoyed every minute of it! I started off with a spot in Lorikeet Landing working with the birds and did that for two summers, and this past summer I was an Animal Handler in the Children's Zoo and got to share my experience here on the Cincinnati Zoo's blog. However, this year the Animal Handling program is not offered, but you can get a Children's Zoo InTeenship. This new program includes animal handling, husbandry, public shows, demonstrations and much more. Teens have the chance to interact with zoo vistors and really make an impact.

You can read more about it here: http://www.cincinnatizoo.org/pdfs/application_materials2011.pdf, along with everything required to apply and other programs available for teens. Check it out!

I do apologize for the lateness of this post since the deadline for applications has been moved up and is sooner than it has been in the past. Also new for this year, even if you are a returning VolunTeen you need to have 2 letters of recommendation. This is a wonderful program and it sounds like this summer is going to have more opportunities than ever! If you haven't already sent in an application and are planning on it, get it sent ASAP. This is a popular program that fills quickly.

Hopefully I'll see you around zoo this summer!
