Love the Lure

People often ask,  “How do you get the cheetahs to run”?  Running is instinctual for them, the challenge is finding something they will chase! Our cheetahs chase after a fluffy dog toy, we call it a lure.

Bravo keeps his eyes on the lure as he runs.

Sara stretches to catch up to the lure.

If the lure turns, so does the cat!

Tom strikes the lure to try to "trip it", just like what a wild cheetah would do to a gazelle.

Once in range of the catch, its time to put on the breaks!

Nia catches the lure with glee.

Tom rests with his catch.

Our cheetahs make it look easy!

Thanks to Mark F. for the high speed shots!

Winter Run Fun

It’s summer now and you can see us at The Cheetah Encounter Show at the zoo but visitors often ask “What do the cheetahs do all winter?” In addition to school programs around the Cincinnati area, we run as much as possible to keep everyone in shape. This last winter was pretty mild so there was lots of running, and lots of photos to share.

Chance sees the lure in sight

Chance gets closer to the catch

Looks like Chance has caught his “prey”.

Chance doesn’t have all the fun, Bravo gets in on the running too.

Bravo has some cool moves making quick turns around the Mast Farm running field.

To see the runs in person, come check us out at the zoo!

Thanks to Mark F. for the running shots!
