How does the fastest land animal stop?

Using his very own ‘brake pad.’  And, here is Tommy T’s Baby Brake, most easily seen while he’s napping!!

It is a specialized pad, also called a goad, which is directly above his foot. It is hard and pointed and strong, oh yes, very strong. He will use it by digging it into the ground, as he is running at those incredible speeds, in order to come to an immediate stop.  Just think of the engineering of that process, and look closely at Tommy T’s. It’s another one of Nature’s amazing adaptations.
