After a LONG process of sifting through more than 4,000 names from all over the world, the Cincinnati Zoo has narrowed the field down to three. It certainly was a TALL task for the Zoo’s giraffe keepers, but they agreed on three finalists: “Zuri” (Beautiful), “Mara” (Spotted) and “Nya” (Purpose).

love the name Zuri
I pick Nya for all the reasons that people gave to not pick the other two. Plus, Nya has a royal sound to it when you say it out loud. I agree that Zuri sounds too much like Suri–and that is a lame name.
Wish I could have figured out how to post my idea…..Nectar….sweet baby and, of course the rest is obvious…..Nec[k].

Nya is beautiful name for her. Nya means purpose/goal and I am sure she has a purpose being here. I am so happy and cant wait to go this week to meet our new addition:)

She is a beautiful little twiga (Ki Swhili for giraffe), so we chose ZURI. She’s adorable.

Okay, I agree with everyone, “Zuri” was just too close to Suri Cruise, “Mara” just didn’t seem to fit her little face, so I chose NYA!!! Just seemed perfect!!!

I voted for Nya. There is already a baby giraffe named Zuri.
I think she should be named Griffeta after her grandfather who passed away a week before she was born at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in RI. Kimba is her dad and was born here at RWPZ. This would have been a fitting tribute to our gentle giant, Griffin (Griffy)

I like Zuri. She is a beautiful animal.
While Zuri is my favorite, they recently named a baby elephant Zuri at a zoo in Utah, and a baby Zebra at a zoo in St. Louis. There is also a black rhino at an Oregon zoo named Zuri. I like Nya better than Mara. I would really like Sera which means Princess. I think she looks pretty enough to be a Princess.
